PERIDONTICS

Our mouths are full of bacteria. These bacteria, along with mucus and other particles, constantly form a sticky, colorless “plaque” on teeth. Brushing and flossing help get rid of plaque. Periodontal (gum) disease is an infection of the tissues that hold your teeth in place, caused by poor brushing and flossing habits that allow plaque to build up in gum pockets. At every regular dental visit to East Texas Dental, our dentists will examine your gums for any signs of inflammation or enlarged gum pockets, so we can catch symptoms early. Some symptoms of gum disease include bad breath, red or swollen gums that are also tender and bleed, pain while chewing, receding gums, or loose teeth. Although the primary goal of treatment is to control the infection, the extent of gum disease usually dictates the urgency and type of treatment. To learn more of how to get screened or treated for gum disease, contact one of our East Texas Dental offices and book your appointment today!
